In the 1980’s a false teaching spread like wildfire throughout American Christianity. You can still find it today. But it’s the false belief that everyone is a minister.
This originated from the Church Growth Movement (CGM) which used Marketing and Business strategies of the secular world in spiritual matters. Their intentions may have been good. Who doesn’t want the Church to grow? But this movement wreaked havoc on churches.
The Law of Prayer is the Law of Belief explains why: By doing secular practice, they became secular. CGM was the impetus for removing crucifixes, crosses, and sacred art from churches because they offend unbelievers. It turned the Divine Service into a seeker pleaser and many houses of worship into entertainment centers.
Most heresy starts off as trying to do something good: explain some aspect of the faith or do something to help expand the church. However, the fruit it bears reveals the nature of what kind of tree it is-bad.
If believers are not all ministers, then who are we?
